ECT-HK, through its American Heart Association accredited training Centers, can deliver basic, advanced and pediatric advanced life support courses. All ECT-HK healthcare provider courses are delivered by instructors who are experienced healthcare providers.
Quality instruction and practical application of knowledge are emphasized.
American Heart Association in Hong Kong
In 1998 the American Heart Association (AHA) appointed ECT-HK as an International Training Centre (ITC) representing Hong Kong and Macau. ECT-HK has since trained AHA instructors and established regional training centers where healthcare professionals can access AHA programs. Healthcare professional training is available at the following centers.

BLS Healthcare Provider Course
The Basic Life Support (BLS) Course for Healthcare Providers aims to provide BLS knowledge and skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). This program will make use of videotape, practical sessions and instructor discussions to help participants to provide basic life support in different settings.

ACLS Provider Course
The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult cardiac arrest. The course uses case-based teaching. Providers are expected to learn and manage: a respiratory emergency, 4 types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA, and asystole), 4 types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia, and acute coronary syndromes), and stroke.
The ACLS Course consists of lectures, video show and multiple practical scenarios to help the participants acquire the techniques of ACLS. Simulators will be used in different scenarios to make the whole training more interesting and challenging.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course
The Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is based on science evidence from the 2005 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
