Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Provider Course

Core Course Objective:
How to manage the first 10 minutes of a sudden, witnessed VF/Pulseless VT arrest.

Course Description:
This American Heart Association program offers guided training and hands-on practice in the key skills of ACLS;

• Use of conventional defibrillator/monitors for defibrillation and cardioversion.
• Use of transcutaneous pacing devices.
• Advanced airway management, including the use of Combitube, Laryngeal mask airway (LMA), and endotracheal tube (ETT).
• Use of qualitative and quantitative end-tidal CO2 measurement devices.
• Use of esophageal detector devices.
• Recognition of cardiac arrest rythmns and the most common bradycardias and tachycardias.
• Recognition of the 12-lead ECG signs of acute injury and ischemia.
• Initiation of intravenous (IV) access.
• Administration of medications by the intravenous and endotracheal routes.

Intended Audience:
Candidates will have a professional healthcare background. Physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and professionals required to respond to cardiovascular emergencies. Personnel staffing emergency, intensive care, or critical care departments.

Course pre-requisites:
Applicants must hold a current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-P) certificate and have a basic knowledge and understanding of ECG interpretation.

Certification:
AHA ACLS Provider course completion card will issued to students who pass the written test at the end of the course. Certificates are valid for 2-years from date of issue.

We recommend you print out and review the ACLS Pretest exam and be confident with the test questions before attending the AHA ACLS program.
